Devore’s Visions

I’m afraid I’m not one for regularity, my dears. However, I would like to maintain some iota of frequency on my posts, so … here we are. As the song goes ” Back in the saddle again, out where a friend is a friend.”  Lovely little ditty, that one. Gene Autry, I believe.

Currently, I am working on a novel called We Fear the Reaper (originally Don’t Fear the Reaper,  but I don’t imagine the Blue Oyster Cult would have been pleased).  It is a primarily a work of horror – what else?- but the underlying subject I wanted to explore is the tumultuous 60’s era, and the abuse of drugs like cocaine. The main character is a man who has had a hard life and has been addicted to ‘Charlie’ for nearly twenty years. He has an estranged wife and teen aged son, who love him yet can no longer abide his self-destructive ways. A dark little tale, and it doesn’t end well. I have faith in it, though, and its message.

Also in the works: a continuing cycle of stories called The Blackfeld Letters. The premise of this is to show the darkest and most chilling secret deeds of man, through fictional letters sent anonymously. Dear Blackfeld … I have at least five  of these letters , and plan on many, many more. ( If anyone would like to suggest something for a letter, by all means do. I will certainly give due credit by posting with your name on The Devorian.)

Well, this was fun. For me anyway. Look out for another of Devore’s Visions, coming soon … how soon, I cannot say.

I lack consistency, my dears.

I have come by to see you, my friend…you haven’t published anything since we talked in April…I hope this means you are busily bashing out your next horror epic…but at the end of sleep this morning, I heard someone(this has happened all my life) tell me to come by and see how you are..please be well..it matters to some, even tho’ I’m not sure you’d believe that…you are a new friend to me, but you are my friend and for some reason I can’t quite put my finger on, I’m worried…could be misplaced…just let me know how you are, OK? Katie.

I am deeply affected by your concern, my dear, and I appreciate it more than I can say. Thank you for ‘coming by’. I admit, I’ve been rather lax of late with my posting, and it is due to a few factors: a) You’re absolutely right, I am in the process of feverishly trying to finish a novel, and b) I’m afraid I haven’t been feeling too well of late. The doctors aren’t too forthcoming in way of a certain diagnosis, but I’ve always had the “What happens, happens” mentality. (Amusingly, some find that particular trait of mine to be frustrating, I believe one went so far as to call me ‘apathetic’ … well.)
Anyway, thank you for this visit, my dear. I will try to be up and posting as soon as I can. Be sure to tell your very astute ‘someone’ that Devore is fine for the time being.
And how are you, my dear?

I am doing well…have no complaints(physical) at the moment..generally speaking I enjoy reasonably good health, barring the sleeplessness that sometimes comes with this part of any woman’s life…BTW, I hope you aren’t worrying yourself and covering it up with a ‘what happens, happens’ thing…you let me know when there’s a blood test for grief, lonelieness, anxiousness, or fear…if I’m being too blunt, you can tell me off…it is the kind of person I am..sometimes soft, sometimes straight to the mark ( I get told off alot, lol!)…then there’s the unfortunate truth of the big ‘M’ that hits men as well as women…can leave you sick as a dying dog, swearing up and down you have the flu, or severe allergies, but you don’t….whichever of these things it may or may not be, you don’t have to be diagnosed with something fatal for me to go back to my ‘very astute someone’ and tell them to help you feel better soon…

P.S. I cannot believe anyone reading your commentary even once could consider your personal take on anything, your health included, as apathetic! If they’re an actual person in your sphere, shame on them, lol! Katie.

…forgot one tiny little other thing…will be thinking of you in ‘feverishly trying to finish’ your novel…don’t suppose there’s any chance it has a good ending, lol? Have to tease because I’m relieved you’re fine. Now I’ll get out of your hair and let you get on with it…K.

I’m afraid the ending is not a good one, no. The whole story is built on how terrible one man’s life can be, and I felt it necessary to finalize in the same vein. Just like it says in Janne Teller’s novel, “From the moment we are born, we begin to die.” Thus I name mine We Fear the Reaper.
Again, thank you for the concern you have shown, my dear, but for now there is no worry. I can tell you with utmost certainty that the big ‘M’ has not come knocking.;) I am glad to find you in good health as well.
      Enjoy your day!
